The performance gap between battery optimisers is widening

Sweden's battery energy storage market is becoming more competitive. As market revenues come under pressure, the performance of the optimisation partner is playing an increasingly important role in the business case for BESS owners.

Based on the Clean Horizon benchmark figures, benchmark revenue declined from €9,200/MW in December to €6,000/MW in January — a month-on-month decline of approximately 35%. For many asset owners, market conditions like these translate directly into lower returns. Fever Energy's own results show that this does not have to be the case.

Fever delivered more than twice the benchmark revenue

In January, batteries optimised by Fever Energy generated realised revenue of more than twice the stated Clean Horizon benchmark.

This performance was not the result of relying on a single market or trading strategy. Maximising the value of a battery requires continuous optimisation across available revenue streams, taking into account real-time market conditions, asset constraints and changing opportunities.

When overall market revenues are high, differences between optimisers can be less visible. When conditions become more challenging, the ability to respond quickly and allocate capacity effectively becomes a much greater source of value.

Should you reconsider your optimisation partner?

For BESS owners, choosing an optimiser is not simply a technical decision. It directly affects asset revenue and long-term returns.

Some owners remain with an underperforming partner because they expect switching to be complicated or disruptive. With the right technology, planning and support, the transition can be handled quickly while minimising its impact on revenue. Fever supports the full transition process, including:

  • A transition plan designed to minimise downtime during prequalification
  • Close coordination to reduce the risk of time outside the market
  • Support for retaining the existing BRP where the setup allows
  • A dedicated team from onboarding through to go-live

Our objective is to get each asset live and maximising revenue as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Make every megawatt work harder

Lower market benchmarks do not automatically mean unattractive returns. But they make optimisation quality, and the ability to adapt as conditions change, more important.

If your battery is consistently performing close to or below the market benchmark, it may be time to find out what a different optimisation approach could deliver. Want to understand how your BESS performance compares? Contact Fever Energy for a performance review and transition assessment.

About the figures

Performance comparisons are based on Fever Energy's internal realised results and the Clean Horizon benchmark figures used for January 2026. Clean Horizon introduced an updated index methodology in January 2026. Actual performance varies according to asset configuration, availability, market access and operating constraints. Historical performance does not guarantee future results.
