Fever Energy has helped Stockholm-based data centre operator Conapto turn the batteries in its uninterruptible power supply (UPS) into an active, revenue-generating energy asset, without compromising the protection they were installed to provide.

Working with Vertiv and Coromatic, Fever Energy connected Conapto’s UPS to Sweden’s ancillary services markets. Capacity that would otherwise sit unused now helps keep the electricity grid stable, while the UPS continues to do its primary job, keeping critical infrastructure online.

Connecting Conapto to the flexibility market

Vertiv’s Dynamic Grid Support technology lets Conapto’s UPS batteries react rapidly when grid frequency changes. Fever Energy provided the grid controller that detects these changes and instructs the UPS to adjust its power, within approximately 500 milliseconds.

Fever Energy also handled the commercial and operational work needed to bring the asset to market: supporting prequalification, bidding the available capacity, and coordinating delivery and deployment of the complete solution with Vertiv and Coromatic.

The result is a qualified Fast Frequency Reserve (FFR) asset that earns additional revenue for Conapto while helping Svenska kraftnät maintain the stability of Sweden’s electricity system.

Critical operations remain protected

For a data centre, resilience always comes first. Conapto’s UPS provides grid services only when operating conditions allow. If a power outage occurs, or the system moves outside its specified operating limits, the UPS automatically stops supporting the grid and its full capacity is available to protect the data centre’s critical load.

That is what makes the model work: backup infrastructure creates value every day, without weakening the protection it exists to provide.

Unlocking more value from existing infrastructure

Data centres are major energy users, but they can also be valuable sources of flexibility. As electricity demand grows and more renewable generation enters the system, fast-responding assets will play an increasingly important role in keeping the grid stable.

Fever Energy gives data centre operators a practical route into these markets. By combining asset control, market access and continuous optimisation in one solution, we turn complex technical infrastructure into flexible, commercial energy assets.

The Conapto project shows what that looks like in practice: new revenue from existing capacity, more support for the electricity grid, and no compromise on operational security.

About the project

Vertiv, Conapto and Fever Energy first announced their collaboration on Dynamic Grid Support in March 2024. The installation uses Vertiv’s Liebert EXL S1 UPS. Coromatic, Conapto’s infrastructure partner, supported the upgrade of the existing installation.
